Every car we've had that's had bluetooth when we received it had this issue, and every time it's been simply the internal mic volume is set to basically 0, thus inaudible. Just a followup, keeping my phone only hooked to 2.4ghz didn't fix it, I told the iPhone to forget the 5ghz SSID, so it wouldn't connect to it, and still got the garbled/robotic noise. If I plug my -known good- Bose "On Ear Headphones" into the output jack, I get very low volume and a lot of distortion and crackling. If I plug my speaker plug into the output, the sound is crystal clear.

I've tested the bluetooth using Spotify in the same cars and no problem there.
